    A JRC article published in August 2015 on consumer food waste in the EU has been selected as one of the 25 pioneering articles published in the recently published Environmental Research Letters (ERL) highlights of 2015.

    The 25 highlights were chosen on the basis of referee endorsement, scientific impact, advances made in the field, novelty and broad appeal, and as epitomising the very best in interdisciplinary work at the nexus of research and policy groups.

    Scientists of the JRC-Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements (IRMM) determined the yields of a wet chemical precipitation method, applied for the conversion of triuranium octoxide (U3O8) into uranium tetrafluoride (UF4).

    The 'Energy - Transparency Centre of Knowledge' (E-TRACK) is a joint initiative agreed between the Directorate General for Energy and the JRC for the promotion of public participation in the implementation of energy policies.

    In close collaboration with international nuclear research organisations, scientists from the JRC described a method to improve the analysis of cross section measurements at a cold neutron beam. This work is part of the JRC contribution to improve the accuracy of nuclear data, which are important for the development of innovative reactor systems.

    In close collaboration with researchers from Romania the JRC- Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements (IRMM) has obtained new results characterising the interaction of neutrons with lead. This was achieved using the electron linear accelerator (GELINA) of the JRC-IRMM.

    Scientists from the JRC contributed to a study of cross sections for neutron induced reactions with 241Am as a target nucleus. The study resulted in a new evaluation of the cross sections in the resonance region.

    Authors from JRC-ITU and four other organizations have generated a Guide on Planning Research, Development and Demonstration (RD&D) towards Geological Disposal of Radioactive Waste. The guide aims to support the development of facilities within lesser advanced nuclear programmes.

    Beginning on the 16th of July 2015, will be the Karlsruhe Atomic days. Including presentations and discussions about the consequences of nuclear phase-out, the search for a repository and nuclear research in Germany.

    On 10 June 2015, in Budapest, the JRC and the European Academies' Science Advisory Council (EASAC) organised an event, hosted by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, member of EASAC. The event was part of the regional promotion of a joint JRC-EASAC report on the "Management of Spent Nuclear Fuel and its Waste".
