    ENCATC has launched the call for applications for the 2nd ENCATC Research Award on Cultural Policy and Cultural Management.

    This annual award is granted to a recently published PhD thesis exploring, through comparative and cross-cultural research, issues at stake and taking a step from evaluative (descriptive) to comparative applied research. In addition, the ENCATC Award is rewarded to a PhD thesis that can inform policymaking and benefit practitioners active in the broad field of culture.

    On May 21st the JRC hosts Michael Lechner, from the Swiss Institute of Empirical Economic Research, presented a seminar which investigated whether firms benefit from active labour market policies.

    From May 6th to May 11th, the JRC met with the managing authorities from Italy, Portugal and Estonia, to talk about pilot projects to carry out counterfactual impact evaluations of interventions related to the European Social Fund, providing comments and methodological support for the evaluations.

    Using teachers' skills from the Survey of Adult Skills (PIAAC) and students’ performance from the Programme for International Students Assessment (PISA) JRC scientists have exploited a multilevel model to investigate how much of the variation in student performance can be explained by teacher quality at the country level across a number of OECD countries.

    JRC Scientist, Sjoerd Hardeman, publishes a paper entitled “Characterizing and comparing innovation systems by different 'Modes' of knowledge production: a proximity approach” in the journal “Science and Public Policy”.
