We are doing science for policy
The Joint Research Centre (JRC) is the European Commission's science and knowledge service which employs scientists to carry out research in order to provide independent scientific advice and support to EU policy.
The European Soil Bureau Network (ESBN) was created in the late nineties as a network of national soil science institutes. The network brings together national institutes from over 40 countries in order to collect, harmonise, organise and distribute soil information for Europe and beyond. The demand for information is constantly increasing. The work addresses a range of issues including the leaching of agrochemicals, disposal of waste, degradation of soil structure, estimation of erosion and soil stability, assessing the suitability (and sustainability) for traditional and alternative crops and supply of water at catchment level.
