Call for applications for the 1st edition of JRC makers-in-residence programme (2020-2021)

The JRC makers-in-residence programme is an immersive programme for innovative thinkers and tinkerers.

Applying to the programme

The JRC makers-in-residence programme gives space to two EU-based makers to

  • further their practices,
  • develop interdisciplinary projects at the crossroads of science, technology and art, and
  • collaborate with JRC researchers and local community

Deadline for applications: 31 July 2020. 17 August 2020

Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.


Each maker can submit one application only per year.

If not selected, they can apply again the following year.

A maker can be hosted as resident in the JRC makers-in-residence programme only once.

What happens after application?

Each applicant will receive a notification of receipt of the application. All communications will be done exclusively by email.

Selection is based on submitted original projects. Applications will be evaluated by the JRC makerspace internal committee.

Projects and makers with experience in citizen engagement and citizen science activities will have priority.

  • Communication of accepted applications: 18 September 2020
  • Selected makers publicly announced: 12 October 2020
  • Official start of the makers-in-residence programme: 2 November 2020

Selection criteria

Selection will be based on criteria as follows:

  • 20% theme coherence
  • 20% interdisciplinarity
  • 20% innovation
  • 40% relation to citizen engagement or citizen science activities
