We are doing science for policy
The Joint Research Centre (JRC) is the European Commission's science and knowledge service which employs scientists to carry out research in order to provide independent scientific advice and support to EU policy.
The European Union-Reference Laboratory for Heavy Metals in Feed and Food in the frame of Regulation (EC) No 1881/2006 and contributing to the implementation of high quality and uniform analytical results, organised a proficiency test on the determination of total As, Cd, Pb and Hg in vegetable food.
The main objective of this exercise was to evaluate the capabilities of nominated national reference laboratories in the determination of heavy metals in support to Regulation (EC) No 1881/2006.
Only appointed National Reference Laboratories could participate in this exercise.
The test material to be analysed was vegetable food. One bottle/participant was sent to the participants in June 2010.
The measurands were total As, Cd, Pb and Hg in support to Regulation (EC) No 1881/2006.
Participants were requested to perform two or three independent analyses using the method of their choice.
