If we think about nature conservation or increasing essential ecosystem services we usually think of protected areas, conserving valuable ecosystems such as forest and wetlands, or maintaining rural landscapes. But can cities also help achieve biodiversity goals and targets? This largely depends on the amount, the quality and management of urban green infrastructure. However, the potential of cities to help protect biodiversity and ecosystem services is likely underestimated.

The Joint Research Centre (JRC) in close collaboration with NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology, US Department of Commerce) and Colorado State University is organising the 2nd International Workshop on Modelling of Physical, Economic and Social Systems for Resilience Assessment on 14-16 of December 2017.

The workshop aims to explore how high-level strategic needs and current scientific advances on modelling of physical, economic and social systems are linked in order to support resilience assessment in various dimensions.
