    The Petten Research Park celebrates its 60th anniversary. This means 60 years of research in Petten, from nuclear to sustainable energy research.

    In 1955 the Reactor Centrum Nederland (RCN, which changed its name to Energieonderzoek Centrum Nederland, ECN, in 1976) was established. Many things have changed since 1955. What impact has the research have had through the years on our society? What aspects of the research are visible in your daily life and what can you expect in the future in Petten?

    Saturday 13th June you can visit the Petten Research Park from 10:00 to 16:00.

    Every two years the JRC-ITU organises Summer Schools on Actinide Science at its laboratories in Karlsruhe. Young researchers from all over the world have participated in lectures, laboratory visits and demonstrations. The 8th Summer School will be held from the 15th to the 19th of June 2015.

    The 8th European Congress on Regional Geoscientific Cartography and Information Systems (EUREGEO), co-organised by the JRC, will be held in Barcelona on 15-17 June 2015. It continues the dialogue started in 1994 by the European Regions of Bavaria, Catalonia and Emilia-Romagna, the Joint Research Centre (EC) and EuroGeoSurveys, and will serve as a platform for experts from regional and national geological surveys, universities, research institutes and the economy, building a bridge between scientific research and practical application.

    The Energy, Water and Climate Change in the Mediterranean (EWACC) -Building Bridges between Europe, the Middle East and North Africa Conference, will be held in Nicosia, Cyprus, from 15-17 June 2015.


    The EWACC-Building Bridges initiative, organised by the Cyprus Institute, aims to foster sustainable development and enable new partnerships in the Euro-Mediterranean region. The Conference will bring together a broad range of expertise, including distinguished scientists from various research fields, the private sector, policy makers, funding agencies and high-level officials.

    DIY Science includes a great variety of tendencies, variously described as amateur, ‘garage’, ‘citizens’, ‘extreme citizen’ and activist. Although now small and marginal, they will surely grow, along with their challenges to mainstream science.There will be problems to be resolved, as established science loses its monopoly of accredited status in the provision of knowledge and advice.  But the challenge should be productive of new thinking and new practices, enriching science in many ways as the two streams interact.
    There are also internal challenges to DIY science.

    The International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG) is the international organisation dedicated to advancing, promoting, and communicating knowledge of the Earth system, its space environment, and the dynamical processes causing change. Its General Assembly is held every four years.
