    The IES has co-organised a high-level African soil event which will be held in the University of Leuven (KUL) in Belgium on 4 and 5 December. The event will mark the launch of the French edition of the Soil Atlas of Africa, and the launch of a striking six week 'Africa in Profile' exhibition which will be open in the cloister of the University of Leuven (KUL) from 4 December 2015 - 29 January 2016.

    In science policy, excellence is everywhere. Following the Research Excellence Framework, the UK’s Universities are all rushing to take credit for their ‘excellence’. The UK Government’s recent science and innovation strategy talks about “the importance of achieving excellence”. Who’d be against that? If quality is good then surely excellence is better? In November 2014, the ‘Rome declaration’ was published as part of Italy’s presidency of the European Union.
