    The 9th Plenary Meeting of the European Technology Transfer Offices (TTO) Circle will take place in San Sebastian (Spain), which is the European Capital of Culture for 2016.  The JRC is organising this meeting in collaboration with Tecnalia.

    The meeting will focus on two main topics:

    Connection of early stage smart investors with technological start-ups in innovation ecosystems

    In this lecture I will compare and contrast theories of technology from the fields of innovation studies and Science and Technology Studies (STS). Various theoretical strands have been developed from different disciplinary backgrounds and with specific aims. In general, theories mobilize concepts and offer storylines to convey a message to readers.

    Many Intellectual Property platforms have been created with various degrees of success but no widely recognised institution exists that can help owners wanting to sell or license their Intellectual Property or support buyers in identifying IP that they may be interested in purchasing.

    This state of affairs perpetuates a situation in the Intellectual Property market in which costs are high and deals are made only following extensive negotiation (often on the basis of non-transparent price structures).

    Course title “Workshop on Microeconomic Evaluation: causality, data and methods
     
    Course content: This course offers an overview of methods and data that can be used to evaluate the causal effect of policy interventions. The first part of the course includes an introduction to causality and a discussion of possible available data sources. The second part provides a non-technical overview of quasi-experimental methods, with example applications.

    The JRC, together with the College of Europe, will bring together financial and fiscal experts, representatives of the scientific community, international organisations and policy makers to review relevant research findings on the social dimension of EMU, and to discuss which tools and methods could support policy responses for building social fairness while implementing necessary structural reforms. The Forum will focus on two topics: the social dimension of taxation and the financing of inclusive growth within the European Union.

    This presentation argues that in order to understand Big Data and its societal consequences, a combination of ethical and epistemological analysis is needed as certain ethical implications – e.g., related to issues of anonymity and privacy – can only be properly assessed if the underlying epistemic practices – e.g., new ways of re-identification and de-anonymization – are recognized and taken into account.
