    This workshop is part of the programme of the 99th Universal Exposition taking place in Milan (Italy) on the theme "Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life". The workshop aims to contribute to share knowledge, experiences and approaches on the economic, institutional, and social drivers of current and future global food and nutrition security. One of the main goals is to discuss the role and contribution of smallholder farmers in developing countries. Smallholder farmers as the main rural actors are frequently the most food insecure because of an array of challenges.

    JRC-IPTS is active in developing data analytics applications for evidence-based policy advice, with a focus on the ICT industry in Europe. Work performed in this field includes tools and methods used to identify EU poles of excellence in ICTs and still ongoing trials with knowledge discovery, pattern recognition, semantic analysis and visualisation techniques. It is addressing diverse aspects such as innovation networks, technology co-evolution or the profiling of ICT techno-economic segments.

    The European Commission JRC-IPTS is organising the 5th European Conference on Corporate R&D and Innovation CONCORDi 2015 next 1-2 October 2015.

    The conference will focus on industrial research and innovation: evidence for policy. It will discuss the role of scientific analyses in the design and implementation of an EU industrial policy based on research, innovation and technological advancement.

    The JRC's initiative "Scientific Support to the Danube Strategy" addresses the scientific needs related to the implementation of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region and helps strengthen the scientific cooperation in the Danube Region.

    The PREDICT Conference 2015 will discuss the transformation of the ICT industries and their R&D and its impact on the economy. It will also address how European ICT industries stand vis-à-vis their competitors in the global market. It will bring together around one hundred industry representatives, analysts and policy makers to present their interpretation of the above issues and to discuss the role of European policies.
