We are doing science for policy
The Joint Research Centre (JRC) is the European Commission's science and knowledge service which employs scientists to carry out research in order to provide independent scientific advice and support to EU policy.
The 2nd International Workshop on the European Atlas of Natural Radiation (IWEANR 2017) will be held in the town of Verbania, Italy, from Monday 6 November at 14:00 to Thursday 9 November at 16:00. The main aim of the workshop is to present the status and discuss progress of the European Atlas of Natural Radiation.
Known as the “garden on the lake”, Verbania is located on the western shore of Lake Maggiore in the Piedmont region. The workshop will take place in Hotel Il Chiostro, a former monastery converted into a modern hotel and situated in a quiet area only a few minutes’ walk from the lakeside.
Organized within the workshop, this Special Session will focus on three main aspects:
1. Influence of tectonics and near surface stratigraphy of rocks and soils on radon emission.
2. Classification of geological features.
3. Representativeness and repeatability of soil radon measurements.
