We are doing science for policy
The Joint Research Centre (JRC) is the European Commission's science and knowledge service which employs scientists to carry out research in order to provide independent scientific advice and support to EU policy.
Under the new Basic Safety Standards (currently still draft), each EU Member State will have to setup a national radon monitoring programme within the ‘radon action plan’, to delineate radon prone areas and to inform its population of the related risk.
For several years the JRC acts as a facilitator to the international radon community by providing a scientific platform to discuss monitoring programmes and to harmonise them with the view to integrate their results in the European Atlas of Natural Radiation (EANR).
