The Second Global Forest Observations Initiative of the Group on Earth Observations (GEO-GFOI-SilvaCarbon) Workshop on Time Series Analysis for Forest Cover Change, organised by the US Government SilvaCarbon program, will be held in Brazzaville, the Republic of Congo, from 1-3 June 2015. The workshop aims to:
- expose partners to different processing methods, classifications, quality assessment, and the time-derivation of spectral features;
- improve technical knowledge regarding mapping forest change using time series system analysis; and
- facilitate collaboration between countries in the region through capacity transfer.
JRC scientist A. Verhegghen will participate in the workshop within the framework of the ReCaREDD (Regional Capacities for REDD+) project, which aims to enhance the ability of institutions in partner countries to report on forest degradation, in a reliable and cost‐efficient manner. Her presentation on the GLOBE-TREES Approach comes under the 'Lessons learned' session on Day 2 of the workshop, and that on the JRC RecaREDD Project: The need for time series analysis for monitoring forest degradation comes under the session on Demonstration of BFAST Method for monitoring forest disturbances, on Day 3.
