We are doing science for policy
The Joint Research Centre (JRC) is the European Commission's science and knowledge service which employs scientists to carry out research in order to provide independent scientific advice and support to EU policy.
The Directorate General Joint Research Centre (JRC) and the Directorate General Health and Food Safety (SANTE) are organising a symposium on nanomaterials in food: reliability of measurement results.
It aims at creating a forum where challenges of the enforcement of the relevant EU legislation on food and food contact materials requiring detection and quantification of nanomaterials can be identified, discussed and best practices exchanged. It is structured around the following sessions:
• EU legislation, risk assessment and consumer and industry perspectives
• Analytical challenges on the identification, characterisation and quantification of (engineered) nanomaterials
• Development of analytical methods and reference materials
• The way forward. Collaboration and networking
This initiative with the involvement of Member States and stakeholders aims to facilitate the work of official control laboratories and competent authorities.
