We are doing science for policy
The Joint Research Centre (JRC) is the European Commission's science and knowledge service which employs scientists to carry out research in order to provide independent scientific advice and support to EU policy.
On 27 January 2015, the Joint Research Centre is hosting a Round Table discussion on Scientific Support to Europe's Photovoltaic Manufacturing Industry.
The Round Table will bring together experts from the photovoltaic manufacturing industry, representatives from European institutions and Member States authorities, stakeholders from industry as well as financing bodies. In the discussion we want to explore the possible role of the European Commission in supporting the recovery of the once flourishing European photovoltaic industry and retaining Europe's prominent place in research. At the same time, participants should discuss possibilities of financing photovoltaic industry projects, including through Smart Specialisation Strategies.
The presentation of the X-Gigawatt Factory case study and feedback from other European photovoltaic industrial initiatives should open the floor for a broader discussion on related practical issues such as the size of projects vis-à-vis the impact and the possibilities of project expansion to other regions.
