Helen English teaches languages - German, Russian, and English as Foreign Language at Maynooth Post Primary, Ireland. She also coordinates the Language Support programme for international students.
My Home-in-Language project supports students' engagement with their home languages. It won European Language Label Award in 2018. The award recognised an innovative initiative that promotes inclusion, cultural and linguistic diversity.
Ms English coordinates the school language policy, aligning it with national and European perspectives. Key strategies target the development of multilingual, intercultural and digital competences.
She is Senior Ambassador for the EPAS (European Ambassador School) programme, proud that the school is ambassador for Europe and proud of the work in supporting students to become informed ambassadors for Europe and competent intercultural mediators.
Student engagement with European issues is further enhanced through participation in the EU Model Council debate. Ms English is the Erasmus+ coordinator for EU projects. The projects connect students and staff with counterparts in Europe through exchanges and collaboration on eTwinning platform.
EU projects are drivers of her school's international partnerships and networks. She believes that embedding the European perspective across school programmes will prepare students to confidently embrace the vision and potential of the European Education Area.
