The Joint Research Centre (JRC) is the European Commission's science and knowledge service which employs scientists to carry out research in order to provide independent scientific advice and support to EU policy.

Europe hosts several 3Rs centres. These centres focus on a variety of innovative ways for achieving impact in the Three Rs – the Replacement, Reduction and Refinement of the use of animals used for scientific purposes.
