We are doing science for policy
The Joint Research Centre (JRC) is the European Commission's science and knowledge service which employs scientists to carry out research in order to provide independent scientific advice and support to EU policy.
The JRC provides support to the Directive 2009/125/EC on Ecodesign and Energy Labelling Directive. The aim of the Ecodesign directive is to reduce the environmental impact of products, including the energy consumption throughout their entire life cycle. (See: Energy labelling directive)
JRC support activities include participation in CEN/CENELEC standardisation committees meetings.
As a result of the related research activities, the JRC produces Technical Reports to follow up technologies developments and progress of standardisation mandates. The sectors in focus are: ICT, smart appliances, professional refrigerators and Solid State Lighting.
