We are doing science for policy
The Joint Research Centre (JRC) is the European Commission's science and knowledge service which employs scientists to carry out research in order to provide independent scientific advice and support to EU policy.
In 2012, the JRC established a permanent European Forum for Science and Industry (EFSI) in cooperation with DG Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs in order to provide a reliable platform to (1) exchange views on the needs of the industry concerning science and innovation and (2) to strengthen the dialogue and cooperation between science and industry in key sectors for European competitiveness and economic growth.
The Forum has more than 1,500 members and brings together public institutions, private companies, the scientific community, European associations, industrial organisations and related networks through regularly organised conferences, roundtable discussions, and bilateral meetings.
The Forum focuses on future EU research and innovation programmes in the context of Europe 2020 and Horizon 2020 objectives, and particularly the Innovation Union. It is managed by the European Commission's Joint Research Centre in cooperation with DG Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs, and with the involvement of DG Research & Innovation, DG Energy, DG Communications Networks, Content and Technology, DG Mobility & Transport and DG Health and Food Safety.
In line with the Europe 2020 strategy, the priorities of the JRC over the next years will support the following key sectors for economic growth:
