We are doing science for policy
The Joint Research Centre (JRC) is the European Commission's science and knowledge service which employs scientists to carry out research in order to provide independent scientific advice and support to EU policy.
SELFIEforTEACHERS is a free online self-reflection tool to help primary and secondary teaching professionals learn more about their digital competencies.
Through a series of reflective statements, teachers can take a snapshot of their digital competence: how they are using digital technologies in their practice; how they are supporting student digital skills; how they are using technology to communicate and collaborate, and for their own professional learning.
The personalised feedback report which teachers receive after they complete the statements can help them to learn more about their strengths and establish where they need further support and development.
The tool is based on the European Framework for the Digital Competence of Educators
SELFIEforTEACHERS has been developed by the European Commission together with a panel of education experts from across Europe.
More than 500 teachers have tested a very first version of the tool. A second round of testing is taking place in April 2021. The full tool will be launched in autumn in 24 EU languages.
All questions and statements in SELFIEforTEACHERS are answered anonymously. No personal data is collected and individuals cannot be identified personally.
The feedback report is automatically generated and the teachers receive the report automatically on completion of the statements. The feedback report is not shared with anyone else unless the teachers choose to do so themselves.
SELFIEforTEACHERS is hosted on a server owned and managed by the European Commission. Data gathered is subject to the Commission’s data processing rules.
On registering on the platform, the teachers have the option to allow their anonymised and aggregated data to be used for policy and research purposes.
