Conference: Irish as a full official and working language of the EU – building up Irish linguistic capacity

Tuesday, 6 November 2018 - 09:00-17:00,

Venue: The Alex Hotel, 41-47 Fenian Street, Dublin 2

As Irish is to become a full official and working language of the European Union (EU) from 2022 on, there will be a substantial increase in the coming years in the number of Irish-language staff in the EU institutions, including translators, interpreters, lawyer-linguists, and assistants. At this conference, which is being jointly organised by the Irish Government and the European Commission, representatives from the European institutions and from Ireland will discuss the opportunities available for Irish speakers in the EU and in Ireland, as well as the measures being carried out by the Irish Government and the EU to reach their goals.
