The role, structure and working methods of the platform
The multi-stakeholder platform on SDGs was set up on 22 May 2017 to:
- support and advise the European Commission and all stakeholders involved on the implementation of the SDGs at EU level
- support and advise the European Commission in relation to Commission events in sustainable development
- help to prepare the selection process of an annual sustainability award
- provide a forum for exchange of experience and best practice on the implementation of the SDGs across sectors and at local, regional, national and EU level.
Members of the Platform
Platform members are either individuals appointed in a personal capacity or to represent a common interest or organisations. The European Economic and Social Committee and the Committee of the Regions each hold one seat in the Platform.
With the exception of representatives of the European Economic and Social Committee and the Committee of the Regions, the Secretary-General of the Commission appointed the members of the platform and management committee from applicants who have responded to the call for applications.
The Platform is chaired by First Vice-President Timmermans and composed of a total of 30 members.
To assist the work of the platform, a management committee has been set up as sub-group of the platform. The management committee is chaired by the Secretariat-General of the Commission.
The multi-stakeholder platform on SDGs will support and advise the Commission in relation to Commission events on sustainable development and help to prepare the selection process of an annual sustainability award.
