European Cyber Security Month is back - join our kick-off event

October is the cybersecurity month. To kick-off the EU Institutions’ participation in the European Cyber Security Month (ECSM) 2020 we organise a morning session to raise awareness on cybersecurity threats, promote cybersecurity among organisations and their staff and provide tips on how to stay safe online and to protect our data, whether personal, financial and/or professional. We also take the opportunity to look into the cybersecurity challenges the different EU institutions are facing in these special circumstances of large scale teleworking since March 2020.

Through this event we seek:

  • to celebrate and promote the ECSM 2020;
  • to raise awareness among EU staff about cybersecurity;
  • to present the activities and responsibilities of the EU Institutions and bodies involved in this event;

We bring together key representatives of EU organisations, experts in cybersecurity. The speakers will share some good practices which the EU Institutions (EUIs), agencies and bodies have successfully implemented to strengthen their cybersecurity and resilience.

Date: 2 October, 10.00 – 12.00

Theme: Combatting Cyber scams in the light of COVID 19

The event can be followed by anyone via public webstreaming.

This is the 3rd edition of this inter-institutional event for the European Cyber Security Month, marking this important campaign with a joint event from the European Institutions (EU-I). The objective is to raise awareness on cyber scams and how to deal with them, in particular in the light of COVID 19. The event will put in the spotlight cyber scams and related activities, including newly dedicated ones to COVID 19, demonstrating that the cybercriminals quickly adapted their modus operandi to the changing situation.

Our institutions have, literally overnight, taken up the challenges of teleworking for all staff and adapted the awareness raising guidance to ensure a secure digital workplace from the home environment, highlighting the responsibility of every staff member to help protecting the institutions and their assets.

Moreover, cyber scams are targeting all citizens and we want to inform them on the different ways and forms the scams can appear in, train and help them to recognise them and take the appropriate actions to counter them.

Together we can stop the (cyber) virus!
