Today, the Commission decided to set up a ‘Group of experts on public administration and governance'. This expert group will advise the Commission and be a forum for dialogue with EU Member States on reforms, including those supported by theTechnical Support Instrument (TSI), and facilitate the exchange of information on thematic and methodological issues, as well as good practices under the TSI. It will help strengthen administrative cooperation between Member States and EU institutions, meaning that the application of EU law, as envisaged in Article 197 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, and policies will be even more effective. The Director-General of the Commission'sStructural Reform Support will chair the expert group, and all relevant Directorates-General of the European Commission will be involved in the group's operations. Members will also include representatives from the national ministries responsible for horizontal issues, policy, coordination or modernisation in the area of public administration. The group will also be open - in full respect of Member States' organisation and procedures - to local and regional level administrations, international organisations, EU bodies and research networks. The expert group is expected to start its operations and organise its first meeting in the first quarter of 2022. The College decision is available here.
