European Securities and Markets Authority
In the area of financial market regulation the Commission works with the European Securities and Markets Authority(ESMA). ESMA contributes to the regulatory work of the Commission, by providing technical advice and preparing draft regulatory and implementing technical standards. It also publishes guidelines and recommendations to ensure the consistent and effective application of EU rules. ESMA also maintains a regularly updated list of regulated markets.
Expert groups and comitology committees
In this area the Commission is also assisted by the Expert Group of the European Securities Committee (EGESC) and by the European Securities Committee. The EGESC is a consultative entity that provides advice and expertise in the area of securities law, in particular for the preparation of draft delegated acts. The European Securities Committee is a comitology committee. It no longer plays a role in relation to delegated acts, but it continues to be active in the area of implementing acts.
