    Eurosmart fully supports the EC proposal for a “Regulation on strengthening the security of identity cards of Union citizens and of residence documents issued to Union citizens and their family members exercising their right of free movement”, and in particular the emphasis put on the national ID cards.     Currently there is no significant hard or soft law at EU level as regards format, security or process related issues for ID cards and residence documents issued to EU citizens and their family members.
