About this initiative

This initiative will help transform the European rail system, promoting automation and digitalisation for a more flexible and reliable system while reducing costs. This will help to ensure that rail is attractive as a low carbon means of transport, with a strong focus on freight.

The initiative will also aim to speed up the deployment of technological innovations on the rail network so rail is more competitive, of better quality and more attractive in support of the Single European Railway Area.
