Générations Futures, the french environmental NGO that I am currently running as Director, welcomed the EU Regulation that calls for a ban of all EDC pesticides. Unfortunately several known ED pesticides are still in the european market ! This is why we doubt the priority should be given to a fitness check. Instead we think priority should be given to a strong action to protect people and their environement in the EU and that resources should be spent on the implementation of the current EU law measures that address EDs. The priority actions we recommend are :
- application of available ED testing for dangerous chemicals in the market (pesticides and biocides),
- development and endorsement of new scientific methods to identify EDs,
- establishment of an assessment method to address chemical mixtures (required by EU law since 2005),
- development of non-chemical, safe alternatives
