Why we are consulting

The European Union protects more than 3000 names of specific products – foodstuffs, agricultural products, wines, spirit drinks and aromatised wine products – under one of its EU quality schemes: Geographical Indication (GI), Protected Designations of Origin (PDO), Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) and Traditional Speciality Guaranteed (TSG). The aim of the public consultation is to get feedback on your understanding and opinion of these EU quality schemes. This public consultation contributes to the objectives of the evaluation of the overall functioning of the EU quality schemes with a focus on the registered names from Member States and third countries sold on the EU internal market.
