I appreciate the commission´s efforts to make the formal requirements as citizen-friendly as possible. When we organised an ECI ourselves, we were overwhelmed by the technical hurdles which resulted in enormous additional work and financial problems, and so I warmly welcome all proposals for technical and organisational improvement. We feel however that too little attention has been paid to the impact and political relevance of the ECI (follow...

The fact that the one year period starts counting on the same day that the Commission gives the organisers the go ahead, does not allow for a proper preparation stage for a structured launch of the ECI. A buffer period of, say, maximum two months should be given before the actual start. It should not be expected that the prepare the whole process without knowing whether or not the Commission will accept to register the ECI. Also in some...

The Institut für Europäische Politik (IEP) welcomes the publication of the related roadmap and offers its expertise...

The main problem in the ECI proposal, is the lack of adequate process for succesful ECI's. It is not enough to have a hearing in the European Parliament. There needs to be a more thorough process for the initiative including a vote in Parliament on the ECI. The national CI's in Finland provide a good example: the committees process the initiatives in Parliament in the same way as government bills and the proposals then come to Parliamentary...

I haven't had the time to read the entire document among the others I would also like to read, but when anyone has made the effort to compose and propose an initiative, the Commission should provide all necessary assistance to bring it to public attention. (I am not aware of any ECI despite my interest and regular visits to europa.eu pages.) Do you have figures for the number of citizens that have actually accessed each ECI? (I just did a...
