Collegium Polonicum in Slubice hosted Citizens’ Dialogue entitled "Europe and EU in face of the new challenges" with Rafał Szyndlauer - Political and Legal Advisor in the EC Representation in Poland (DG COMM).
The dialogue was organized in a framework of the 19th international scientific conference entitled “Europe of the 21st Century” grouping around 300 academic scholars, politicians and journalists form various European countries interested in the EU affairs.
The conference formed a platform for an exchange of opinions and views about possible, and desirable directions of changes in the EU’s legal and institutional system in the face of the new challenges. It also created opportunity for presentation of the results of scientific studies into the contemporary problems of Europe and European integration.
The dialogue attracted 110 participants, mainly university scholars and representatives of various think-thanks dealing with European affairs. The gathered public was especially interested in the following issues:
- the most probable scenarios for further development of the European integration including impact of a growing populism in Europe and the current crisis of European values on a situation in the EU and in its institutions,
- security threats in Europe and the EU reaction to Russia’s aggressive behaviour in international relations,
- consequences of Brexit for the EU and Great Britain,
- possibilities of further enlargements of the EU (esp. European perspective for Ukraine and Georgia) and perspectives for the Eastern Partnership initiative.
