Health is about mental, social, and physical well-being; not just on the absence of disease
On 21 June 2018, the Luxembourg Commission Representation organised a Citizens' Dialogue with Commissioner Andriukaitis and Luxembourg Health Minister Lydia Mutsch.
Andriukaitis and Mutsch emphasised the role of prevention in public health, saying: “It’s about prevention, and prevention again. To prevent premature, avoidable deaths. To keep people as healthy as possible for as long as possible.”
Participants in the dialogue were keen to find out what the national government, and the EU, were doing in areas such as epilepsy, dialogue with patients, or obesity. One participant wanted to know how the Commission could protect itself from Big Pharma lobbying.
The audience also revealed in snap polls that they found climate change and environmental issues to be the biggest threats facing European public health, and that they were broadly in favour or information campaign and regulation to combat tobacco use.
