Citizens' Dialogue with Małgorzata Figwer, Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport (DG MOVE), European Commission

Summary

The first Citizens’ Dialogue during the new European Commission’s term in office took place on December 2nd,2019 at Stare Kino Residence (120 Piotrkowska Str.) in Łódź, Poland. The EC expert was Ms. Małgorzata Figwer, representing DG MOVE, whereas the discussion moderator was Dr. Bartłomiej Zapała of the Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce and a Team Europe expert.

The lively discussion with the roomful of young audience from amongst Łódź and Piotrków Trybunalski secondary school and university students touched upon several issues related to cybersecurity and cyber threats.

The participants were interested in both the broader EU policy issues related to cybersecurity (EU legislation, cooperation between MS and operation of relevant EU agencies e.g. ENISA) as well as more practical issues related to actual benefits of GDPR and E-privacy directive application.

The young audience, as regular users of modern media, were interested in and concerned about the actual scope of security and anonymity that various safeguard mechanism may offer to internet users.

The Dialogue was organised jointly by the Europe Direct Information Centres in Łódź and Piotrków Trybunalski.
