Commissioner Phil Hogan visited Japan in May 2019, accompanied by a business delegation of senior representatives from the European agri-food sector. The purpose of the visit was to facilitate European agricultural food and beverage exports to benefit from the favourable outcome of the economic partnership agreement EU-Japan, which entered into force on 1 February 2019.
The objective of the business delegation visit was to give the opportunity to the accompanying European producers’ representatives to meet potential partners from the local agri-food sector. A programme of activities for the business delegates took place in Tokyo from 08 to 11 May 2019 and included seminars on the characteristics of the local market and consumer trends, retail and site visits and networking opportunities.
