Refrigerating appliances with a direct sales function include super market cabinets, cabinets for scooping ice-cream, refrigerated vending machines, beverage coolers and ice-cream freezers.
Energy labelling requirements will apply from 1 March 2021 onwards, under Regulation (EU) 2019/2018.
Using a scale from A (most efficient) to G (least efficient), the labels will give information on annual energy consumption, the volume or display areas of the compartments and the temperature of the compartments. For beverage coolers and ice-cream freezers, the labels will also show the maximum ambient temperature.
Rules on ecodesign for refrigerating appliances with a direct sales function will apply from 1 March 2021.

The new rules,applicable as of 1 March 2021, are expected to lead to energy savings of 48 TWh in 2030, which represents half of the final energy consumption of Belgium in 2016.
