High-Level  Workshop on the future of EMU

In Berlin, the European Commission Representation, the Jacques Delors Institut – Berlin and the Bertelsmann Stiftung jointly organised a high-level workshop "The Presidents´ Report on the Future of the EMU: Next Steps for the Euro Area". The Commission was represented by Taneli Lahti, former Head of Cabinet of Vice President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis. After setting the scene by presenting the Five Presidents´ Report, the high-level participants from various academic and professional backgrounds shared their views on the proposals and debated on how best to complete the European Monetary Union, covering a broad range of subjects, including: A system of competitiveness authorities, structural reforms, convergence - its necessity and different concepts, a financial union comprising of a complete Banking and Capital Markets Union and prospects of a future fiscal stabilisation function and stronger democratic accountability.
