Debate: "How to make the Economic and Monetary Union function better?"

In Estonia, the European Commission Representation hosted a half-day debate on the future of the Economic and Monetary Union.

The European Commission was represented by Mr Lucio Vinhas de Souza, Head of the Economic Team at the Commission's European Political Strategy Centre. He explained the ongoing work on completing the EMU, including the roadmap set out in the Five Presidents' Report. The speakers from Estonia represented the academic and private sector view of the future of the EMU.

The discussion focused on the overall architecture of the EMU, institutional strengthening of economic governance, national ownership and fostering economic convergence in the EU.

The seminar was attended by a broad range of participants, including representatives from the business organisations, financial institutions, stakeholder organisations, academia and the media.
