How to file a complaint

You can send a complaint to the Commission via a letter in the post, or by completing this online form

The form is not compulsory but it has been designed to help you make a complaint in a structured way.

Please use it if you can. The complaint form can either be sent electronically, or in paper format (if you prefer to send a paper version, then you'll need to print out the form in RTF format).

Who to send your complaint to

Your complaint should be sent to the Secretariat-General of the European Commission, who will forward it to the relevant Commission department.

Who will handle your complaint

The relevant director-general or head of department will investigate the substance of the complaint and then respond to you in writing within 2 months.

Redress procedure

You have 1 month to ask the Secretary-General of the Commission to review the outcome of your complaint.

The 1-month period runs from the date you received a response from the Commission to your complaint. The Secretary-General will reply to a request for review within a month.
