Muelle Prat rail terminal

Programme:

The project involves the construction of a rail terminal within the new Muelle Prat container terminal which is being built in the Port of Barcelona.

The strategic objective of building a new container terminal is to develop the hinterland of the Port of Barcelona so that it can become one of the main gateways for container traffic bound for the southern Europe.

Since rail transport is an essential element of the aforementioned strategy, a rail terminal will be built within the Muelle Prat container terminal. The concession agreement establishes that BPA will be the rail terminal owner and Terminal Catalunya will build it under its supervision.

The new rail terminal will be the largest of its kind in Spain and one of the largest in the Mediterranean region and Europe. It will accommodate both Iberian and UIC (European) gauge trains. Under the concession agreement the rail terminal is an open terminal owned by BPA, so that all users have access to it on a non-discriminatory basis.
