Multimodal corridor Amsterdam-Marseille: rail and water multimodal solutions for freight stakeholders
The action concerned the corridor “North Sea-Mediterranean” which extends from Amsterdam to Marseille (via Lyon/ Basel) and to the United Kingdom, covering distance of around 1700 kilometers and linking six countries (France, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Belgium, the Netherlands and UK).
Within the framework of the Global Project, the Action consisted in a study aiming at developing an operational strategy to implement new multimodal transport solutions in the short and long term along the Corridor with a particular focus on three main “basins”: Maas-Scheldt/Seine, Rhine/Mosel, Saone/Rhone. The action followed a multimodal approach, attempting to define the best scenarios and implementing measures to adopt intermodal service solutions.
Concretely, the Action led to a complete overview of the transport flows characteristics of the "North Sea-Mediterranean" corridor with a particular focus on the 3 identified basins segments; the Development of short and long-term multimodal freight transport scenarios along the corridor; and the setting-up of efficient and operational decision-making tools for the future development of a multimodal strategy for the corridor.
The Action was implemented and resulted in a study with recommendations on the way forward for establishing a multi-modal corridor.
The action is closed.
