LNG Feeders, a Solution for Archipelagos far from LNG Storage Plants
Difficult access to alternative fuels in some regions hampers the reduction of the related gas emissions and decarbonisation of European transport. This project will study existing solutions in the Canary Islands and other remote areas regarding the access to natural gas.
It will study the introduction of LNG (liquefied natural gas) and CNG (compressed natural gas) in the Canary Islands, as a way of stemming oil dependence and reducing overall energy costs. To achieve this aim, public authorities, port authorities and the private sector will join forces to establish the most appropriate logistics chain to supply LNG in the archipelago.
The project will identify market demand for LNG and CNG in Islands for the short and medium term and evaluate the actual cost of its delivery there. A storage and supply analysis will also be undertaken, combined with other safety and security assessments. A feasibility study regarding the adaptation of this solution to other European remote areas will be carried out.
Finally, in order to disseminate the results among all stakeholders at national and European levels, appropriate activities will be ensured throughout the project's implementation period.
