Upgrade of the Turin-Modane line and the Turin freight bypass

Programme:

The scheme is located on Priority Project 6, next to the centrepiece tunnel that will join Lyon and Turin.

 

The objective of the project is twofold:

  • Preparatory activities and launch of the preliminary project for the freight railway bypass in Turin, between Settimo Torinese and Bussoleno
  • Studies for the upgrading of the existing railway line Turin-Modane, which followed a cooperation agreement between the governments ofFranceandItaly. More in detail, the studies include the following elements:
    - Upgrading to gauge B+ for the transport of trucks on the wagons ("ferroutage")
    - Upgrading of the Frejus tunnel to the latest safety requirements
    - Better environmental integration of the line

 

This project has been completed.
