Rail project Lyon-Turin: studies on French access routes to base tunnel

The Lyon-Turin international tunnel (base tunnel), part of Priority Project 6 (railway axis Lyon-Trieste-Divaca-Koper-Divaca-Ljubljana-Budapest-Ukranian border), will increase capacity on the congested Franco-Italian crossings and make rail competitive with air and road travel on these high-density passenger and freight routes.

The aim of this project is to define the French access route to the base tunnel. It includes technical and functional studies over an area from Lyon to the new line to measure the impact of existing rail network (Lyon-Grenoble, Lyon-Vienna left bank, Lyon-Saint Etienne, Lyon-Ambérieu, Bourg en Bresse line and Paris-Lyon-Marseille high speed line) on projected access routes.

This project will also carry out the studies prior to the public interest enquiry (EUP), (whose Environmental Impact Study is main the part), the consultations between administrative departments at central level and the enquiry prior to the public interest declaration (EPDUP), including its supporting dossier.
