What does the NIS Directive on Cybersecurity mean for the citizens?

Creation date: May 7, 2018

9 May is the deadline for the Member States to transpose into national laws the Directive on Security of Netowrk and Information Systems (NIS Directive), the first EU-wide legislation on cybersecurity.

The implementation of this Directive will ensure better cybersecurity capabilities at national level, increased EU-level cooperation and improved risk management by digital service providers.

This will allow EU citizens and businesses to benefit from the digital economy knowing that they enjoy a high level of  safety and security online.

CEF Telecom

To help Member States rapidly transpose the NIS Directive and build their capabilities, the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) Telecom programme is providing €38 million in funding until 2020 to support national CSIRTs as well as other NIS Directive stakeholders, such as the operators of essential services and digital service providers.

The CEF Telecom 2018-3 call on Cyber Security will open on 16 May with €13 million of funding. Follow INEA on Twitter @inea_eu and LinkedIn to be updated on the latest developments of the call.
