Spain to receive EU co-funding for its high speed rail network

Creation date: July 5, 2011

Studies aiming at helping the implementation of a high speed rail line between Bobadilla and Granada in Spain will receive €2.24 million in EU contribution under the 2010 TEN-T Annual Call. They will also contribute to the implementation of Priority Project 19, the “High speed interoperability on the Iberian Peninsula”

The studies receiving funding are divided into two activities. The first consists of the drafting of geotechnical studies for the following two sub-sections:

• Loja Station and Sierra Gorda

• Loja bypass-Valle del Genil

The second activity covers track bed design studies for 21.4 km of high speed railway line, for the following four sub-sections:

• Quejigares-Variante de Loja

• Loja bypass-Rio Frio

• Loja bypass-A-92

• Loja bypass-Valle del Genil

These studies are an important part of the realisation of Spain’s high speed rail network. Specifically, they will help the direct high speed link between Granada, Malaga, Cordoba, Seville, Madrid and other main Spanish cities, leading to a significant reduction in journey times.
