Nearly €1.5 billion requested for CEF Energy projects

The Innovation and Networks Executive Agency (INEA) has received 26 proposals by the 12 October deadline for the 2017 Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) Energy call requesting nearly €1.5 billion in total EU funding. The total available budget for the call is €800 million. Evaluation of the proposals with the help of external experts will start by mid-November.

 

The 2017 CEF Energy call closed yesterday 12 October 2017 with INEA receiving a total of 26 proposals in the areas of electricity and gas infrastructure (breakdown below).

Admissibility and eligibility of the proposals will now be checked and the proposals will then be evaluated against the specific award criteria of the call. The entire evaluation process, which will involve external experts, is expected to be concluded by February 2018, when the final results will be announced.

The selected proposals will contribute to:

  • Ending energy isolation
  • Increasing competitiveness by promoting the integration on the internal energy market and the interoperability of electricity and gas networks across borders
  • Enhancing the Union's security of supply
  • Integrating energy from renewable sources and developing smart energy networks
  • Eliminating energy bottlenecks
  • Completion of the internal energy market
