The Romanian Transport Minister Razvan Cuc, the European Transport Commissioner Violeta Bulc, the Rhine-Danube Core Network Corridor European Coordinator Karla Peijs and INEA Director Dirk Beckers took part in the christening ceremony of a CEF transport funded marking vessel in Giurgiu (Romania) today.
The new vessel, "Concordia EU 2019" will determine the optimal fairway trajectory. Fleet operators and shippers will benefit by this increased of safety and reliability of navigation. Waterway administrations will be able to plan future maintenance and capital upgrade measures. The vessel construction is part of the CEF funded FAIRway project that aims to upgrade the Danube River transport infrastructure and develop the waterway transport. The EU is supporting this project with €19.3 million, which represents 85% of the total project costs.
