€773 million requested for Horizon 2020 Smart Grids & Storage and Smart Cities projects

Creation date: February 15, 2017

Applicants submitted 100 proposals in the latest round of the Horizon 2020 energy calls managed by INEA. The results of the evaluation will be known not later than 14 July 2017.

Smart Cities and Communities

INEA has received 18 project proposals, requesting €360.7 million of EU funding, in the Smart Cities and Communities call of which the available budget is €69.5 million. INEA estimates that three to five projects will be selected for funding.

Successful projects are expected to develop intelligent, user-driven and demand-oriented urban solutions in so-called lighthouse cities. These solutions should be then replicated in other urban districts across Europe, with the involvement of follower cities.

How will the projects be evaluated?

The results of the evaluation of both Smart Grids and Storage and Smart Cities and Communities project proposals will be known no later than 14 July 2017.

The selection of projects will be done by external independent experts from different countries. These evaluators are drawn from the European Commission's database, which includes over 80,000 experts from various fields and nationalities.

The Commission is looking to expand the database through a call for experts covering a very broad range of fields. If you fit the profile and would like to be considered for evaluations, please sign up in the Participant Portal.
