The CarbFix2 project plans to advance the state-of-the-art in carbon capture. It's goal is to effectively store large quantities of industrially generated CO2 as carbonate minerals at the industrial scale at a favourable cost.
The project will adapt proven methods, developed in the predecessor EU-funded project CarbFix, to store pure CO2 as carbonate minerals through its in-situ carbonation using a novel gas injection technique. In the framework of CarbFix2, this storage method will be expanded and optimised for “real-life” impure industrial CO2 gas mixtures that contain substantial quantities of solubility impurities.
The project will provide open source solutions for worldwide implementation of the carbon capture and storage method, and it will continuously share know-how and expertise with interested parties.
Given the highly sensitive nature of the activities, the consortium will involve in a dialogue with the public, local communities and authorities.
