Rail Technical Equipment and Infrastructure Upgrade: Londonderry to Coleraine Rail Line

The Action is part of an infrastructure improvement programme in Northern Ireland. The global project aims to optimise performances, increase the capacity of this isolated railway network, promote modal shift and to achieve economic, social and environmental benefits from TEN-T investments.

 

The Action's' main objectives are to improve the connection between Belfast and Londonderry, to increase safety and efficiency, removing speed restrictions and to contribute to decarbonisation. The Action will also improve connectivity and accessibility to the North Sea Mediterranean Corridor. The Action relates to the upgrading of signalling and telematics and the construction of a passing loop on a 54 km section of the Comprehensive rail network between Coleraine and Londonderry.

 

It includes design, procurement and installation of the equipment and construction works. The Action will enable to establish an hourly service between Belfast and Londonderry.
